Friends, these boots were made to travel! Looks like  I'm gonna hit the road in May/June.  I'm looking to visit people FOR REAL and play (and sing) for pretty much anybody who will listen. Talk to me about doing a house concert, barbecue picnic, wine shop, coffee shop, pub, club, whatever, wherever: Eugene, Seattle, Roseburg, the coast, Bend, you name it.. I'm going to be a traveling troubadour for a while.. Im going wherever the muse takes me.  I'm on a journey of self exploration, self realization, and manifestation.  I'm following the wind. Also, I might crash on your couch and drink your grandmothers tea.  I'm a travelin' man!  If you are in the Northwest and have an idea for me please contact me here at my website!  I'd love to see you in person!  Gracias!

Smith Corona Time Machine

Frederick Van VactorComment

I'm not sure if I'm part of a new poet Renaissance or something.. But, Look what I found on Craigslist! My parents had (mom may still have it?) This exact model of Smith Carona typewriter. See, I currently don't own a computer printer.. and my Mac laptop is antiquated.. I'm still using the IPad 2.  I had a batch of lyrics I wanted to print, so yesterday I had to email them to the UPS store, then walk in and ask, "Did you get a batch of emails from Fred Van Vactor?"  "Can you print me a copy of each of those?"   It cost me like one dollar 17 cents to print 12 pages, which was a drop in the hat..

    The typewriter I saw on Craigslist and recognized it immediately.  The guy selling it lived 8 blocks away in Sellwood, right down where I go on my morning/afternoon walks..  He brought it out and demonstrated it. SOLD!  I paid $60, a deal in my book. It feels like a piece of family history.  I like the feeling of punching the letters in.. Perhaps late at night, while listening to the classical music station drinking port wine like Charles Bukowski, or maybe early in the morning at the tea shop across the street.. There are a couple of typewriter repair specialty shops here in Portland.   Ace Typwriter & equipment has been in business since 1961. I think that's too cool for school.  So perhaps I'll be blogging soon on my typewriter..! As I sit now, in my livingroom, poking my old iPad 2 in 2015.. morning light shining through the front window.  It has me thinking about the past and how things have changed so much over the years; telephones with rotary dials, cassette tapes, vinyl records, 8 track, TV in general, Donnie and Marie.. That's the era that I came out of growing up in Roseburg Oregon in the 1970's.  This machine reminds me of a simpler time.  I'm feeling sentimental now. Gotta write!

Cheers ya'll!

GIGS GIGS and more GIGS!

Frederick Van VactorComment

Hi folks!

tonight is Wednesday night, my night to play at Homebase coffee and espresso at 7:30pm.  This gig has been very good to me.  I'm getting my sea legs back after having too much time away (from playing out).  I hope people can make it!  I always have fun, but the more the merrier!  The people make the party they say!  I have other opportunities to play, such as;

THIS FRIDAY the 6th. I'll be doing a 30 minute set at 9:15pm. at the lovely Artichoke Music Venue on Hawthorne here in Portland.  The cost is only $5 and they serve beer/wine.  This is a lovely place with: great people, excellent sound system, and a wonderful listening environment.  I'm really exited to play here!  Come here and feel the love!  This will be a great time!  There will be 3 other singer/songwriters on this night. Doors open at 7pm. show begins at 7:30pm

Also, if anybody wants to host a house concert or event, please get ahold of me.  I am looking to play anywhere in the Oregon, Washington area within the next few months.. (Hello, Eugene, Roseburg, Seattle, etc.). I need some road trips!  I will gladly play at your uncles biker bar, or your grandma's bridge club dining hall, or your cousins apartment complex laundry room, your dear sisters wedding, or your own livingroom!  I accept cash or payment in tacos!  Mmm.. Tacos!

Mucho's Gracias!

(that means "thank you" in the language of tacos)

cheers!

New Website!

Frederick Van VactorComment

The cat swallowed the bird in this photograph!  I wish to introduce to you one of my favorite people I've ever had the pleasure to know and walk the earth with.  Mercy Tatum (on my right) is one of the most unique, charming, and beautiful people ever alive.  Born with a natural sense of "coolness" and "Individuality" both she and her genius amazing husband Trey have certainly been one of my greatest treasured confidante's here in our city of Portland.  These are my people!   So when I had the opportunity to have my web site redesigned I naturally jumped at the chance to work with the Mercy Tatum!  We chose designs together and talked colors, fonts, and templates until my brain turned to mush.. Then the next day, like magic, like a new hairdo, "poof!" The new Fred Van Vactor web site appeared!  We are both proud parents of the new: Fredvanvactor.com  It's my new place to blog and post all of my musical musings and display anything to do with ME!  I'm about to fill the site up with the fresh new me! Very soon, the shop will be up and I'll be selling t-shirts and cd's, etc. Boy oh boy am I stoked about this!  Please take the time to click around on it!  It's for you, about ME Yay!!!! Me!!!

X O,
